Five years of work with one team,
across many products.

mBills is the Slovenian mobile wallet — one of the few local fintechs that left a mark across Europe. I worked with them from late 2019 to 2024: the first end-to-end UX/UI redesign in 2019 brought home a FinTech Award.

In between: a full brand refresh in 2023, a family of cards (mBills Mastercard, Spaycy ghost card, Wish + Vibe prepaid collection), TV ads, posters, photography, POS design and back-end systems.

The last wallet redesign in 2024 went into development, but never on air — the new owner is shutting it down this year. It's here anyway, because it's the work I'm most proud of.

The wallet that won.

The first end-to-end UX/UI redesign of the mBills wallet. From useful to useful + beautiful. When I joined, the team told me to draw the app I'd want for myself — so my mockups included a piggy-bank, shared account, loyalty profile and a crypto marketplace. Not all of it shipped, but a lot did. Along the way I translated every crypto white paper and coin description into Slovenian. The part that shipped earned industry recognition.

Gift cards that glow in the dark.

People feel a bit guilty handing over a gift card — like they ran out of ideas. Wish and Vibe were born as a funny gift — actually first with events in mind: comic-strip packaging instead of a dry sleeve, neon colours and glow-in-the-dark print that turn the card into a hit at any club, festival or company night. No one in the world makes cards like these.

Two portals, one world.

The main mBills portal as the sales surface and info hub — plus a separate Wish card portal where the buyer checks balance and meets the brand's comic universe.

09 · The wallet that never shipped · 2024

The wallet that never shipped.

More modern, lighter, with 3D animations and soft transitions. The design was done, the code was written — the user never saw it.

Epitaph · why it didn't ship

In 2024 Petrol became the new owner of mBills. This year the brand is being sunset and the product direction has shifted elsewhere. The new wallet stayed forever in the repository and in my portfolio. Sometimes the best work is the work the world never sees.
